I’ve been a professional reader–writer–editor–proofreader in one form or another since 1998. In 2014 I returned to full-time freelance work after more than a decade away; in-between I worked for more than six years in publishing and around five in the book trade. Mostly I write features, reviews and stories, while I edit anything from academic articles to web text. (Read more on my freelance page.)

What more to say? I was born in Los Angeles, California, moved to the English Lake District when I was seven, grew up and was educated in the Windermere area, studied at Leeds University, lived and worked in Bristol for nearly fifteen years, and then returned to the Lake District at the end of 2016. A lot of things interest me, and I like eating and drinking and thinking about eating and drinking.
